This 3-part series is geared towards the beginner to the more seasoned collector or the curious
photographer interested in learning more about the market and how collectors think.
Session #1: Top Ten Tips to Collecting Photography
The session begins with an inside peek at how the instructor built her own 300-piece museum-quality
collection followed by her top 10 tips and collecting ‘best practices’ developed over the last 35 years.
Session #2: Thoughts to Consider + the Questions to Ask
While photography is a multiple, each image is unique. We’ll look at the constellation of issues to
consider before spending a penny including the questions to ask, how to deal with galleries and the
associated administrative chores.
Session #3: How to Buy at Auction
We’ll take a deeper dive into the auction world including how to bid, auction language, how to read a
catalogue, condition issues, and post-auction sales opportunities.

Optional: Virtual Gallery Visits
We’ll visit prominent photography galleries located across the United States. Dealers will discuss
some of the artists they represent, today’s market and the business of running a gallery. This intimate
setting allows you to ask the questions you’ve always wanted ask! ($50 per 3-hour session).
