3 Part Virtual Series: Do’s and Don’ts of Collecting Photography

Join us for an insider peek into the world of collecting photography and the commercial marketplace.  These three half- day sessions are geared for the beginner to more seasoned collector or the photographer interested in learning more about the market and how collectors think and build collections. (This series leads up to our  ‘Collecting Bootcamp’ scheduled for Fall 2020 (tentatively two full days on Friday Sept 25-Saturday Sept 26 but this might change).

Offered through Maine Media Workshops + College, this class will meet remotely every Wednesday for three weeks: June 24, July 1 and July 8 from 1:30pm to 3:30pm. 

June 24: Top 10 Tips to Collecting Photography
We begin with an overview of the instructor’s nearly 300- piece museum- quality collection followed by her top 10 tips on collecting ‘best practices’ developed over a span of 35 years.

July 1: Thoughts to Consider Before Spending a Penny and the Questions to Ask
While photography is a multiple, each image is unique. We’ll look at the constellations of issues to think about before spending a penny, the questions to ask, dealing with galleries as well as administrative chores .

July 8: How to Buy At Auction
We’ll take a deep dive into the auction world including how to bid, auction language, how to read a catalogue, the questions to ask, and post-auction sales opportunities.
